Dr. Michel Despont received a Ph.D. in Physics from the Institute of Microtechnology, University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1996 with a dissertation on the microfabrication of electron microlenses for a miniaturized electron microscope.
After a postdoctoral fellowship at the IBM Research - Zurich laboratory in 1996, where he worked on cantilever-based sensors and pioneered the process development of an ultrathick, high-aspect-ratio UV resist called SU-8, he spent one year as a visiting scientist at the Seiko Instrument Research Laboratory in Japan.
Since returning to Switzerland Dr. Despont has been working for IBM Research - Zurich, where he is leading the nanofabrication group, and CSEM.
He holds more than 30 patents, has authored four book chapters and more than 100 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings.
