The use of information technology (IT) services to access information and process large-scale data sets is becoming indispensable for proper operation of our modern digital world. These IT services today generate 50% of the value in the developed world’s economy. This tremendous proliferation of IT services was made possible by the advances in semiconductor fabrication of computing platforms over the past four decades.
